Life Through His Eyes

It's very rare that I allow my 5 year old to hold my camera, none-the-less take actual photos with it. But he has shown an increased interest in photography over the past few months. His increased interest, followed by is ever increasing use of the phrase "you don't trust me with your things", led me to trust him and allow his interest to flourish this afternoon.

...and I am so happy that I did.

He couldn't wait to get inside and look at all the photos he had taken. Many of them were blurry, he still hasn't nailed that yet. But the composure of some of his photos were impeccable. I'll admit, I was slightly jealous of his super cool sunflares that he took all by himself. I haven't even mastered that yet.

Since the camera was set on "auto", I did do a slight clean up on the photos (mainly just the exposure and clarity). And he was thrilled. He immediately wanted to edit them as well but I refrained from jumping on that train just yet. I want him to master a camera for ready to print photo quality, not be lenient and feel free to make mistakes just because he can "photoshop" it.

It was nice seeing through the eyes of my little boy -- his creativity, his love for something that I love. Without any prompting or coaching, he took photos of some of his most favorite things in about 5 minutes. And what a joy it was to watch.
