{Sneak Peek} Jesse, Jeet + Gisele's Fall and Christmas Mini's!

Christmas Mini Sessions were in full swing this year, and I cannot tell you how appreciative I am of the beautiful couple that allowed us to use their Christmas Tree Farm for that weekend. We had lots of fun, and I really enjoyed capturing everyone's Christmas joy!

This little family, I just adore them. They wanted to do their Fall and Christmas mini's this year, but we had to reschedule their fall mini for the same day as their Christmas mini. They were complete and total troopers, especially Gisele. She did so good, and that big smile on her face proves it!

Here are a few of my favorites from their sessions a few weekends ago!

{Newborn Session} The Sherry Family

Back in the Summertime, a sweet mama sent me an email inquiring about newborn sessions. My heart always screams just a little bit inside whenever I receive newborn requests. I have to say, it's certainly not the type of session that keeps me the busiest, but I'd love to do more of them. I instantly wanted to say "yes", but we had to go through the typical business replies etc. But then, once she said "I think I've seen you on the local Chicken-Chat facebook page?", everything was fair game! This girl is my kinda mama, and she's a chicken mama too!

However, my favorite part of the entire thing was when she told me that her newest bundle of joy is her rainbow baby...

{Fall Mini Session} The Seabolt Family

I'm finally getting around to blogging this very patient family's session, and it's a beautiful one. I knew they lived up on the mountain not too far from me, but I didn't realize just how far up on top of the mountain they actually lived....and I am so thankful for it. It was the most beautiful ride I've had in a long time to a clients session, and the leaves were just at peak and perfectly crisp, waiting for the shutter to click.

My little family has known Danny for quite some time, but I've just recently gotten to know his wife, Ashley, and I absolutely love her to pieces. She is just wonderful, and I am so happy we finally got to meet in person a few weeks ago...and their adorable kiddo's!

Here are a few of my favorites from their session...

{Fall Mini Session} The Foard Family

There are those families throughout my career that make me feel like a part of them when I am around. The Foard's are one of those families. I can remember how shy and timid Harry was when I first took their fall family photos four years ago. And I can definitely remember how much of a nervous wreck I was. They were my very first paid family session, and I was terrified I couldn't deliver.

They were gracious and told me they loved their photos from that day, and maybe they still do, but as I look back, I am amazed by how much my style and technique has grown. But most of all, I am amazed by how much little Harry has grown. This kid keeps me laughing, and his curly hair is just a mama's dream. Now, Harry doesn't shy away from me at all. In fact, he's quite the ham for the camera. And I love it.

Here are a few of my favorites from their session a few weeks ago....

I know his face is crazy in this last photo, but it was just too cute not to share!

Thank you so much, Rick and Stephanie, for once again allowing me to capture your beautiful family. I hope you enjoy your photos!!

xoxo

{Sneak Peek Fall Mini} Joe + Brandy

These two were such troopers during their session. Let me just say, for as windy as it was, they never lost their smiles, and Brandy's hair was always beautiful! And...they brought along their two lovable black labs, which instantly stole my heart! As I told them, I love taking photos of people, but I extra love taking photos of two beautiful people in love. These two are just adorable, and I am so pleased that they chose me to take their photos!!

Here are a few of my favorites from their session last week...

{Fall Mini Session} The B Family

Last week I met up with this precious little family for the third year in a row. It is incredibly awesome to see these little fella's grow right before my eyes. I can't even imagine how that makes their momma and daddy feel!

At the end of our session, one of the little guys came up to me and gave me a giant hug and said "thank you for taking our photos". He was a ham for the camera, but he warmed my heart more than he knows. This is why I love my job!!

Here are a few of my favorites from their session....

{Fall Mini Session} Steve, Carina, Ashton + Owen

If I told you how lovely, beautiful, talented, amazing, incredible, gorgeously fun this family is, you might call me a little biased -- just a little. But they are all of those things, whether they are my family or not! A couple of weeks ago I had the privilege of once again photographing my sister and her precious little family. The sun was going down quickly -- shame on me, still trying to get used to Autumn time! But we were still able to get several great photos, between Steve being as stiff as a door nail, Carina laughing at my jokes more than anyone else, and Ashton laughing every five seconds whether I told a joke or not. Believe it or not, the littlest was the easiest of them all to photograph -- and that doesn't happen often. Either way, they were awesome :)

Here are a few of my favorites from their session!

{Fall Mini + Senior Session} The Dawson Family | Old Town Warrenton

This year, as always, Summer was my extremely slow season. I welcomed it with open arms, but I must admit, it was incredibly exciting seeing this view behind the lens over the weekend. My Fall photography season is in full swing, and I could not have asked for a better family to kick it off for me!
Not only is this family just amazingly awesome, they are also part of our family, and our Church family. We get the best of both worlds -- not only are they my husband's cousins family, they are also our Pastor and his little brood!
Here are a few of my favorites from their session in Old Town Warrenton this weekend....

{Personal} Around here.....

It has been quite awhile since I've posted a personal blog on my photography page. I thought it was long overdue, and there are so many beautiful inspirations around here to take photos of, and not sharing them would just be cruel.

{Fall Mini Sessions} The Entire Month of October!

It's time to start thinking about those Fall family photo sessions!

Now is the perfect time to book your fall mini session for the month of October, during peak leaf season.

Cost is $125 for a 20-30 minute session | 10+ digital images through instant download | complete printing rights | and only in the Fauquier/Culpeper/Rappahannock area.

Popular locations this year are Crockett Park, Culpeper Feed (beside the depot, best on Sundays when they are closed), Private Remington Farm, Private Castleton Farm....and so many more!

These photos are great for Christmas cards, Christmas gifts, or just to add that spark of color to your wall...especially to get you through the winter months!

This year, as with years past, I have once again decided to offer these mini sessions for the entire month of October. I had thought about doing them on just particular days, but I love my clients way too much for that. Each and every one of you has a busy schedule, just like me, so I wanted to offer the entire month so that we could work around your schedule, and the weather, of course.

Please contact me ASAP if you are interested in a Fall Mini Session for the month of October. These will not last long, as seen in previous years when I had to turn people away :( I will try my hardest NOT to turn anyone away this year!

Please contact me at amy.fewell@gmail.com, 540.827.8285 or on facebook. If you do not receive a reply within 48 hrs through email or phone contact, please try facebook. Unfortunately, technology can be silly at times, and I have horrible cell service at home.

{Mentoring Session} One-on-one or in a Group!

I had to start my photography journey by myself over 3 years ago. While it was full of challenges, it was fun. I learned things the hard way, and learned how to deal with them on my own. But mostly, I had a handful of photographer friends who where there for me if I needed them, and for them, I am eternally grateful.

So, it was only natural for me to hold my very first workshop of my own this past Spring. And boy, did we have fun! It was nice just relaxing and being "girls"! All while learning about our camera's and how to shoot them....literally...or, wait...not literally....

Over the past month I have had others show interest in taking part in another workshop, and I am delighted that so many women are starting to branch out beyond their comfort zone to learn about the basics, and the not so basics! And honestly, it helps me learn too!

With that said, I have decided to offer One-on-One workshops, as well as group workshops. However, I will need to have a certain amount of people interested in the group workshops before I can confirm a date.

Here are the workshop groups that I am happy to offer year round:

Simple Basics Workshop | $50 per person
Learn how to use your camera, what all those buttons are for, shooting in RAW and manual, and how to do simple "shooting" indoors and outdoors. We'll do a "walk about" around the farm to gain a little more experience. 2 hour class

Simple Editing Workshop | $95 per person
Learn the basics of editing -- changing exposure, contrast, vibrancy/saturation, making that black and white photo "pop", and more. 2 to 3 hr class

Stylized Workshop | $150 per person
A stylized photo shoot will be set up so that each person will have time to take photos of the session. Then we'll come back inside and start going through the editing process. 3 to 4 hr class

The Simple Basics Workshop and Simple Editing Workshop are also available as a One-on-One class, however the prices are different. Simple Basics Workshop, $85. Simple Editing Workshop, $125. Each will be a 1 to 1.5 hour class.

If you have any questions about these workshops, or are interested in attending one, please email me at amy.fewell@gmail.com, private message me on facebook , or feel free to text or call -- 540.827.8285

Finding a Photographer | A little about my style....

Dear Clients;
I love you. Really, I do. You guys amaze me and I am so grateful for you. Most of you "get" my style. And I totally get yours.
However, to those interested in booking new sessions, let me just tell you a little bit about "my style".
I love vintage, rustic, country, with a touch of elegance every now and then. It doesn't mean you have to dress that way, but that's the way I shoot and edit. So if you do dress that way, your photos will turn out so much better, I promise ;) The way you dress really DOES matter. Make sure you find a photographer that shoots in YOUR style....even if it's not me.
I do simple editing -- nothing exaggerated or fake. There will be no fake sunsets in the background....because if it didn't happen, then why try to force it? And it doesn't make for natural photos. There will be no editing of wrinkles or facial blemishes (with the exception of teenage boys and those pesky ones that just "pop up" over night! haha). There will be no editing in of monsters, huge houses, a fake ring or things that were never there. I'm capturing something timeless and real, not something fake.
I prefer very little use of props, with the exception of mini sessions and some newborn sessions (even then, I want timeless), which I try to offer for those who love the props. My regular sessions typically have little to no props. It dates photos, takes longer with kids, and it takes away from the intimacy you need to have in order to connect with your family or special someone during that time. I love nature and everything it has to offer, I want to capture that. With that said, I do offer stylized sessions in addition to the mini sessions, but I try to wrap them all into the mini's to make it easier for everyone.
I am a quiet thinker, so if you come at me with a billion and one poses from pinterest, I freak out and freeze up. I WELCOME your suggestions and photo ideas (and my clients know this!). Yes, please! But please also allow me to just be "me" and come up with idea's, and move with the sun, and shoot things as they "come to me". You can't "pose" real...you just can't. I love the clients who say, "let's do these main poses, and then the rest is totally up to you!" My regulars do this, and I love it!
Doug + Morgan's Engagement Session | 2013
I.love.REAL. And while these are just the top few things you should know about AFP, there are so many other layers that are fun and exciting.
Please, do your research when looking for a photographer, and please, find someone that matches YOUR style, not just a "good photographer". And if that photographer isn't me, I'm fine with that :) I would so much rather you find someone who matches your wants and needs, rather than sticking with someone who takes good photos but doesn't match your family's style.
With that said, I do have a stylized shoot coming up in September, which I have been working on for a few months (and will be roping my husband into building my main prop). This will be a vintage "camping" type theme, but it will be so much more. A quilted teepee/tent with rustic logs (handmade), blankets, baskets, lantern (not lit), old books. It will be the perfect time to capture those fun memories, laying out in the field, barefoot under the sunset -- spending time with your family or cuddling next to the love of your life.
If you are interested in booking one of these stylized sessions or a regular session in September through December of this year, please contact me immediately. There are many dates that have been booked far in advance (both personal and for clients), as, believe it or not, the fall colors and Christmas rush are beginning!
www.amyfewellphotography.com | amy.fewell@gmail.com | 540.827.8285
... or shoot me a private message on facebook, www.facebook.com/amyfewellphotography
There is a $50 deposit required at the time of booking. I cannot tell you how many people have booked sessions with me in the past 3 months, didn't pay the deposit, and didn't show up for their session. This is why I require a deposit. Your session is not booked until the deposit is received.
Please know that I will always strive to give you my best, and I only expect the same in return.

love and hugs
xoxo

{Sneak Peek} The Denison Family + Smash Cake

I met up with the Denison family last week for an early  morning session. Morning session's are always my favorite. The light in the morning is just so much more different and brilliant than in the evenings. It's almost "fresh" and new feeling when scrolling through the photos I've edited.

I have photographed the Denison family several times over the past year or so. It all started with sweet little Reid's newborn session. Oh my, did he steal my heart then. Ashley is a natural mama and even let me hold him and snuggle with him while the rest of the family was getting ready for their newborn session that day. Coming from a woman who has had severe baby fever for well over a year, it was such a blessing :)

Senior 2014 | Anthony {Old Town Warrenton}

Several weeks back, I met up with Anthony in Old Town Warrenton for his Senior portrait session.

I absolutely love Old Towns for Senior sessions, and it makes me happy when today's youth enjoy that vintage feel as well!

{Sneak Peek} The Abate Family | Remington, Virginia

A couple of weekends ago, I met up with the Abate family for their family portraits at my grandparents farm.

Everyone loves that old car that sits on their land, including the Abate family, so location was a no brainer!

I had so much fun with these guys. They had ME cracking up the entire time, and I love it when my clients are goofier than I am ;)

Here are a few of my favorite's from their session. Please click on the photos to see them larger if you'd like.

{Newborn Session} Sneak Peek | Baby Ryan

I love my job.

I cannot say that enough.

It blows my mind that -- not only do I get to capture families, love and friendships -- I get to capture the first precious moments of little ones like baby Ryan.

Ryan was born on March 4th, at 5:45pm. He weighed in at 8lbs 9oz and 19.5" long.

He.is.adorable.

I definitely got my baby fix for at least another month or so!

Mama was a natural at the session. She was completely at ease and willing to help wherever she was needed. Including only having to clean up pee once :) That's a record right there.

Big brother Shayne gave me a good chuckle while I was there, as always. And daddy was perfect as well!! The best atmosphere you could ever ask for at a newborn session!

Here are just a few of my favorites from his session.

Make sure you click on the photo if you'd like to see it larger or in more detail.

{Upcoming} Simple Basics Workshop | May 3rd

I've had several of my personal friends, as well as clients, ask me that age old question... "how do I...?"

I so enjoy responding to those emails, texts, and drop ins. I really love to help people as much as I can with their question, but sometimes, you just need that hands on experience to really make things click.

So, after much consideration, I've decided to take on a very small 2-3 hour photography workshop for amateurs and new photographers who simply need to learn more about the basics of photography.

This class will take place in Remington, Va. with lots of fields and wooded area's available for us to take photos in and of. I will have a few people (and hopefully pets as well) that will be available for us to "practice" our camera skills on after you've received a crash course in learning about your DSLR, shooting in manual and shooting in RAW. Lighting and positioning are key as well, so we'll be talking about those key ingredients during our outside time.

The workshop will take place on SATURDAY, MAY 3rd (rain date, Saturday May 24th) and will begin at 12 noon. This workshop will be 1-1.5 hours of "learning" your camera and how to shoot manually, and the remainder of the time we will be spent focusing on outside work -- posing, lighting, and really learning how to shoot manually with the ever changing outside lighting.

-- THIS IS NOT AN EDITING COURSE -- I will certainly touch just slightly on simple editing techniques, but there will not be a demonstration with a computer. This is really a time to focus on learning how to properly use your camera, lighting, positioning, and the basics that so many of us took weeks to learn when we first started out.

There will be finger foods and drinks available to snack on. This is a very laid back workshop, so no need to get all dolled up! You can come in yoga pants, for all I care -- oh, how I love my yoga pants.

LIMITED SPACES ARE AVAILABLE. I would really only like to take on 6-8 people for this workshop, so please contact me ASAP if you are interested in taking this class.

The $55 includes everything that will be available to you that particular day -- the clients, the setting, the set ups and of course, we must eat!! The entire $55 is due 1 week after you've booked your space. You will be sent a paypal invoice which you can pay online -- you do not have to have a paypal account in order to pay it. If you're not comfortable paying online, you are certainly welcome to send a check through the mail -- please let me know this is your intention when you contact me. If you prefer to make two payments of $27.50, this option is available as well, however, the first $27.50 is non-refundable should you decide to back out of this workshop. All payment arrangements are due IN FULL by APRIL 1st.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! I am very much looking forward to this fun time with you guys -- so excited!!
